Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Barcelona defender Dani Alves, with Paris Saint Germain reportedly having pulled out of a move for the player.
The news comes as a huge surprise, after suggestions emerged last week in the Spanish media that Alves had already committed to the French champions as part of a pre-contract agreement.
Today, the French media have hit-back, suggesting that no such deal has been made. Indeed, they go as far as to say that Laurent Blanc’s side are no longer interested in the player, leaving the door open for United to swoop.
The report continues to explain that PSG have simply moved on to other targets, believing that they already have sufficient cover in the right-sided position. In recent games, it’s been Marquinhos who has played in the role, with Serge Aurier providing suitable cover.
In contrast, United are desperate for an established full-back capable of bettering Antonio Valencia and Rafael. It will be interesting to see whether Louis van Gaal now firms up his interest in the player, who is a free agent at the end of the season.
