Although losing such a top young player would no doubt be a blow, there’s no need to despair as other big names are out there for some very reasonable prices. Decide for yourselves, Liverpool fans, if any one of these six targets could actually improve Brendan Rodgers’ squad next season, even if Sterling is not in it…

1) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

Linked with Liverpool in the past, Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus is also known to be wanted by other big names such as Manchester United, and could be available for precisely £50m this summer, according to the Daily Express. Replacing Sterling with a player of the German’s calibre seems like a no-brainer and fantastic business.

2) Pedro (Barcelona)

If Liverpool want some money to spare, the bargain option to replace Sterling with another pacey, goalscoring winger would be a £15m bid for Barcelona’s Pedro, who is up for sale at the end of this season, according to the Daily Mirror.

3) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

Back in January it was claimed by the Daily Star that Real Madrid would sell Karim Benzema to Liverpool for £40m this summer. With the Reds still in need of a replacement for Luis Suarez upfront, this move makes perfect sense and would be smart business.

4) Memphis Depay (PSV)

Long linked with Manchester United, PSV starlet Memphis Depay has also been linked with a £20m move to Liverpool by talkSPORT and would be another brilliant replacement for Sterling at a fraction of the price they could sell their unsettled star for.

5) Jackson Martinez (Porto)

Linked several times with Liverpool and other top clubs, it is thought that Arsenal could sign Porto’s prolific striker Jackson Martinez for just £24.5m this summer, according to the Metro – another player who’d make a great bargain buy for Liverpool upfront.

6) Miralem Pjanic (AS Roma)

Although Liverpool would reportedly need Champions League football to make this happen, or so says the Metro, AS Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic could join for just £37m in another great piece of business that would see the Reds address a far more pressing position for them than out wide, with Brendan Rodgers in need of a Steven Gerrard replacement.
