After already admitting in the Mail Online, that it will be tough to attract the big names to Merseyside in the summer, Liverpool fans will be hoping whoever is brought in do not turn out like these five:

5) Dejan Lovren

The Croatian international looked good at Southampton last season which won him a move to Liverpool in a reported £20m deal (according to the BBC).

Has not lived up to the billing of one of the most expensive centre-backs in the world. And now can’t even get into the team despite a defensive crisis at Anfield.

4) Fabio Borini

The very first signing under Rodgers when he took over in the summer of 2012, and it is fair to say it has not gone well for the Italian striker, hard to imagine that he a unused sub in the Euro 2012 final just weeks before signing for Liverpool, now seems far away from a international recall.

Just three league goals in 36 appearances at Anfield.

3) Simon Mignolet

A good shot stopper, as proven against Arsenal at the weekend, but has made numerous mistakes over the course of the season, and to think Pepe Reina was allowed to leave in favour of the Belgian, which must be a decision that Rodgers deeply regrets.

2) Mario Balotelli

When Luis Suarez departed for Barcelona in the summer, Liverpool needed someone to replace the Uruguayan’s goals and hunger, Mario Balotelli has done neither since arriving from AC Milan for a reported £15m fee (according to the BBC)

Just the single Premier League goal since returning to England.

1) Iago Aspas

The Spaniard had two successful seasons with Celta Vigo, before Rodgers picked him up for a fee believed to be £7m according to the BBC.

Failed to score a league goal for the Reds and has been on loan at Sevilla this season.
