Despite a crushing 4-1 win at the Emirates Stadium by Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, Liverpool vice-captain Jordan Henderson remains upbeat about their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers doesn’t need to finish in the top four to save his Liverpool job

The Reds went into the game against the Gunners needing to win in order to close the gap between the two sides, but three goals in a devastating eight minute spell at the end of the first half from the hosts proved to be too much for the away side to overcome.

That made it back-to-back losses for Brendan Rodgers side and leaves them seven points off the top-four, although that could extend to eight depending on Manchester City’s result against Crystal Palace on Easter Monday.

With just seven games to go, it appears if the Reds are in Europe next season, it’s likely to be in the Europa League.

But the England international is refusing to throw in the towel just yet and has tried to rally the troops in his post match interview on the club’s official website:

“We knew it was going to be difficult [to finish in the top four] even before we came here, but it makes it even more difficult.” Henderson said.

“That doesn’t mean we’ll just give up. We’ve got seven games left now and we need to try and win every one. If we do that, then you never know.” He added.
