Four midfielders Arsenal must target this summer in order to mount Premier League challenge

Arsenal are set to miss out on the Premier League once again and regrets will linger at the club as a disappointing start to the season has come back to haunt them this term.

Games such as Swansea City away, Hull City at home and Leicester away particularly spring to mind considering that the Gunners threw chances away having taken the lead in those encounters.

However, since the turn of the year, Arsenal have been impeccable and much of that has been down to the return, and the performances, of Francis Coquelin who has given the team a platform to build on.

Arsenal and Manchester United target ‘reflecting’ on possible summer move
Five Premier League wingers who would be world-class if they knew how to cross the ball including Arsenal star, Man City speedster and Raheem Sterling

Despite his outstanding form, a central midfielder is still high on the Arsenal wish-list (via Evening Standard).

Here are four central midfielders Arsene Wenger should target this summer.

1. Morgan Schneiderlin – Southampton.

According to the above report from The Evening Standard, Schneiderlin is Arsenal’s number one target this summer which would be a sensational addition for the Gunners.

The Frenchman has been one of the outstanding players in the league this season and has established himself as an elite player in his position across Europe. Schneiderlin was handed a start in France’s recent friendly against Brazil and looks like becoming a linchpin for his national side too.

2. Geoffrey Kondogbia – Monaco

His performance against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League this season brutally displayed what the club has been lacking since the days of Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva.

Strong in the tackle and dominating his duels all over the pitch, Kondogbia would give Arsenal some considerable strength which they’ve desperately lacked for a number of years.

3. Christoph Kramer – Bayer Leverkusen (Borussia Monchengladbach on loan)

The German youngster is best known for starting in the World Cup final in place of Sami Khedira, who was injured in the warm-up, with Kramer himself only lasting 15 minutes after suffering from concussion early on in the game.

On loan at Borussia Monchengladback, Kramer has helped them leap above his parent club in an impressive season. Standing well over 6ft, the destructive midfielder is seen as a major target alongside Schneiderlin for Wenger this summer (via Daily Mail).

4. Mario Suarez – Atletico Madrid

Suarez was finding game time rather hard to come-by earlier on this season but after being heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in January (via The Express), the Spaniard has featured heavily under Diego Simeone.
