1) He’s been compared with Arjen Robben

According to the Daily Mail, PSV manager Phillip Cocu believes Depay can be as good as his fellow countryman Arjen Robben, another world class Dutch winger who made his breakthrough at PSV. With his superb record of 47 goals from out wide already for his club, it’s easy to see where the comparison comes from.

2) Youngest Dutchman to score at a World Cup

After scoring two goals for the Netherlands at last summer’s World Cup, Depay broke a record for his country as the youngest ever Dutchman to score in the competition, when he was still only 20. Perhaps this fine form under United boss Louis van Gaal could help him seal a switch to Old Trafford?

3) European Champion at Under-17 level

He may not have won a lot at senior level so far, but Depay has tasted success at a major tournament with the Netherlands at Under-17 level, winning the European Championships back in 2011.

4) Strange tattoo

Depay has many tattos around his body, but most strangely of all he has one on the inside of his lip!

5) He likes to be known only as ‘Memphis’

Depay has actually dropped the ‘Depay’ from the back of his shirt, going only by ‘Memphis’, which is supposedly to do with his father’s absence during his childhood.

6) Not long left on his contract

Depay has a contract with PSV until 2018, which puts the Eredivisie giants under pressure to sell him this summer or risk losing him for less money next year as he nears the end of his deal. With United so keen on him, it is perhaps unlikely the 21-year-old will extend his stay with the club.
