Liga MX preview: Cruz Azul vs Tigres UANL – Crucial six-pointer as season nears its finale

Cruz Azul and Tigres UANL will do battle on Saturday night in Mexico, with both teams keen to secure their top eight ambitions.

Time: 3pm PDT / 6pm EDT / 11pm BST
Date: Saturday 11th April 2015
Where: Estadio Azul, Mexico City

With both teams lying level on 19 points, Tigres (5th) and Cruz Azul (6th) will both be keen to use this game as an opportunity to put some distance between themselves and the playoff-chasing pack.

The Liga MX is incredibly tight; going into the weekend, only six points separated third-placed Chivas from fourteenth-placed Santos Laguna. It means neither side can afford many slip ups in the final five games if they want to get into the all-important top eight.

Tigres are in the better form of the two. They beat second-placed Veracruz 3-1 at home last weekend thanks to a brace from Rafael Sobis and a third from Joffre Guerron, and have now lost just one of their last five.

Conversely, Cruz Azul lost Mexico City’s ‘Clasico Joven’ derby 1-0 against Club America last weekend, and have now only won one of their last five.

Tigres are without  captain Juninho (Achilles) and Jose Torres (slipped disk), while Cruz Azul are injury free and have a full squad available.
