Some excellent hold-up work down the left-hand side from Daley Blind allowed Ashley Young to arrive in support of the Dutchman. After receiving the ball, the winger curled an exquisite cross into the box.

As the ball lingered in the air, it seemed obvious that it was only heading to one man, Fellaini. The Belgian was lurking – practically unmarked – at the back post, and he made sure he took advantage of the opportunity, driving his header powerfully towards the goal. Whilst Joe Hart managed to get an arm on the ball, he was unable to stop it, and had to watch it cross the line.

The goal crowned off a frantic start in the game. Within eight minutes, Sergio Aguero had given Manuel Pellegrini’s side the lead with a well-worked goal. But the provider of the third goal, Young had equalised when he was fastest to react to Hart’s save from his own effort.

Is Manchester City’s season completely unravelling?
