A poor clearance from goalkeeper Robert Green in the 88th minute ballooned into the air, and with his defenders facing away from him, it allowed Eden Hazard to react first before getting down the right-hand side and subsequently bursting into the box.

As the defenders crowded around him – afraid of touching the Belgian maestro through fear of giving away a penalty – the winger set the ball into the path of the Spaniard who rifled an effort from twelve yards, leaving Green helpless, and Chris Ramsey’s men deflated, as another defeat loomed.

The goal had arguably come against the run of play, as Rangers had created the best chances of the game. Matt Phillips had only been denied by a wonderful save from Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois earlier in the second-half, whilst Jose Mourinho’s men struggled to get much fluidity until the goal.
