5) Sheffield – 30 points

In fifth place is Sheffield, with eight trophies won by Sheffield Wednesday and five by Sheffield United, though neither have enjoyed much success in recent times.

4) Birmingham – 45 points

Next up is Birmingham, who boast European champions in Aston Villa, who have 20 trophies in total, while Birmingham City have won two.

3) Manchester – 122 points

39 trophies for Manchester United and 13 for ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City, it is somewhat surprising to see Manchester only come in third here, especially given the immense success of the Red Devils under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, including the 1999 treble-winning season.

2) Liverpool – 135 points

41 trophies for Liverpool and a further 15 for local rivals Everton, the Merseysiders can only come in second place here despite the Reds’ long dominance at the top of the English game, with a record for most European Cups won by an English club – five.

1) London – 145 points

With 71 trophies between them, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Charlton Athletic, Queens Park Rangers and Wimbledon make London the most successful football city in England with their impressive haul, with the Gunners leading the way on 28 pieces of silverware and the Blues close behind with 20 in their history.
