Manchester City deny interest in Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp as race to land German widens

Manchester City have distanced themselves from rumours suggesting that they’ll appoint departing Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp as the pressure mounts on Manuel Pellergini, according to Sky Sources.

The highly respected Klopp announced on Wednesday that he would leave his post after seven years at the Westfalenstadion and hinted that he is keen to take up a new role after denying rumours that he’s set for a ‘Pep Guardiola style’ sabbatical (via The Guardian).

Dortmund have endured a tough season this campaign, with Klopp spending must of the season trying to steer his side away from the relegation zone. The reality is that a season without Champions League football awaits for the first time in four years.

Already struggling to compete financially, the lack of additional revenue may see some star players such as Marco Reus and Mats Hummels, who have been linked with moves away (via Daily Star), depart and Klopp clearly felt that the club needed a new Head coach.

Winning six trophies in eight years as well as a magical run to the 2013 Champions League final, it is no surprise to see the German linked with all the top European clubs.
