Even if City were to try and lure Klopp to the Etihad it appears they would have to fight off Napoli, who are on the search for a new boss with former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez set to leave in the summer. Their president Aurelio de Laurentiis has already thrown their hat in the ring, saying:

“”At the time I appointed Rafa Benitez I spoke to Klopp. He told me he was under contract with Dortmund until 2016 which is why we couldn’t sign him as manager then.”

The Citizens hierarchy are confident they have a chance of bringing Guardiola to the club at the end of the season. This is despite the ex-Barcelona head coach having already committed his immediate future to the Bundesliga champions. They are also interested in bringing Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti should other moves fail.

However, Klopp could still be the most readily available in the next few months, with Manuel Pellegrini under pressure after a string of defeats have left the club fighting just to retain their spot in the top four.
