An all-English Liverpool XI: Reds boast a strong Three Lions contingent with a frightening front three

Liverpool are one of very few top sides in the country that could field a decent starting 11 made up of players that have or are eligible to represent England at international level.

The majority of the group at Anfield have already won numerous caps for the national side, while others are certain to feature for the Three Lions in many years to come, but how would this English contingent fare under Brendan Rodgers?

GK) Lawrence Vigouroux

With the current senior goalkeepers of Australian and Belgian descent, Vigouroux has to be plucked from the youth team. Signed from Tottenham last summer, only problem is he wishes to represent Chile at a World Cup.

RB) Glen Johnson

England’s first choice right-back for many years until recently being displaced by Nathaniel Clyne. Although Johnson’s defensive capabilities can always be called into question, his attacking instincts saw to him win over 50 caps for his country.

CB) Andre Wisdom

Having broke into the first-team at Anfield two seasons ago, Wisdom has been tipped for a bright future. His progress has somewhat stalled since Tony Pulis took over at West Brom, where the youngster is currently on loan, however. He’s already skipperd the England Under-21s

CB) Lloyd Jones

Another one plucked from the u-21 set-up, Jones has yet to make his first team debut for the Reds but has represented the national side at youth level and has enjoyed loan spells with Cheltenham Town and Accrington Stanley this season.

LB) Jon Flanagan

One of the surprise performers last season, Flanagan played a key role in Liverpool’s late season push towards the title, form which helped him earn his first England cap against Ecuador in the build up to the World Cup last summer.

MC) Steven Gerrard

Former England captain with 114 caps to his name, which is the third highest. Retired from international duty following a disastrous World Cup and didn’t quite replicate his club form for country.

But the Liverpool skipper is still one of the best midfielders of his generation.

MC) Jordan Henderson

The 24-year-old midfield dynamo is an automatic starter in Roy Hodgson’s side right now. He brings enthusiasm to the team, but is yet to convince on the international stage. His performances for Liverpool this term have steadily improved, however, and he’ll likely be an international asset for years to come.

MC) Adam Lallana

When fit he is an automatic choice for a call-up into the England squad. But injuries have hampered his progress this season, meaning he has not been able to show the Kop faithful his undoubted talent.

AMR) Jordon Ibe

The youngster is yet to play for the senior side or for the under 21s, but given his impressive performances in a Liverpool shirt this season that should change in the very near future.

Could be a key player in years to come for England, although the they will have to act fast as the Nigerian FA want him to switch allegiances.

AML) Raheem Sterling

The future of English football, Sterling has everything in his locker to go on and become a world superstar. He was one of few England players to come out of the World Cup with any credit and has carried that form into this season.

Scored his first international goal last month against Lithuania, which he will hope is the first of many for the national team.

ST) Daniel Sturridge

Another player that just can’t seem to shake off the injury bug this season. He had been England’s first choice striker up until his fitness problems coupled with the emergence of Harry Kane.

But when Sturridge is fit and firing on all cylinders again, he should have enough to reclaim his spot and hopefully lead the side to international glory.
