The England international, still only 19, has enjoyed a rapid rise to stardom in the last year or so after some fine form at the St Mary’s Stadium earned him a call-up to the World Cup last summer prior to a big-money move to the Red Devils.

Costing around £30m in total, Shaw has failed to deliver so far, and has supposedly missed the warmth of his former employers at home town club Southampton, where he enjoyed a close relationship with former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Daily Mail also claims in this in-depth report that the teenager has struggled with his fitness at United and been instructed to work on his diet after struggling to cope as a wing-back in Louis van Gaal’s demanding system.

Shaw last played in United’s FA Cup defeat to Arsenal, and there seems to be little sign that he will make it back into the team after failing to impress his manager.
