(Video) Awkward: Manchester United star David de Gea celebrates Wayne Rooney goal, despite fact striker’s effort didn’t go in against Chelsea…

Read the full Man United player ratings below:

GK) David de Gea 6/10

The Spain star could not do much about the goal after being left exposed, but he did celebrate when he thought Wayne Rooney had scored! Awkward.

RB) Antonio Valencia 5/10

The winger looked exactly that – a wideman being deployed as a full-back. Did his best but was off the pace for the goal and looked vulnerable when Chelsea countered.

CB) Chris Smalling 6/10

Strangely the elder statesman of the two in the middle, Smalling coped fairly well with an ageing Drogba.

CB) Paddy McNair 6/10

The youngster still looks raw on these big occasions, although he did test Courtois with one rasping shot.

LB) Luke Shaw 8/10 (Blackett -’80)

Arguably one of his best games in a United shirt, especially when bombing forward in the first half.

CM) Wayne Rooney 7/10

Everyone knows Rooney is more effective up front and United’s results are better for it. Spurned his big opportunity after three minutes.

CM) Ander Herrera 6/10

The schemer is always dangerous on the ball when he reaches advanced positions and he helped the visitors boss possession. Booked for diving at the end though.

CM) Marouane Fellaini 6/10

Not the dangerman that he has been of late, Chelsea’s game plan took care of him.

AM) Ashley Young 6/10 (Di Maria – ’70)

Young was on the fringes of the match for large spells and departed with 20 minutes left.

CF) Radamel Falcao 5/10

Hit the woodwork when put through on goal and slipped when attempting a long-range effort, it just isn’t happening for him.

Subs:

Angel Di Maria – 6/10 Couldn’t force the issue.

Adnan Januzaj – 6/10 Failed to make the breakthrough.

Tyler Blackett – 6/10 Uneventful late cameo
