6) Didier Drogba

Panned for his performance against Queens Park Rangers last week, Didier Drogba looks way past his best at the age of 37 and has probably played more games than expected. For a backup, the Ivorian is not a bad option, but this should surely be his final season in a Chelsea shirt, making it all the more baffling that the club sold a top youngster like Romelu Lukaku last summer.

5) Filipe Luis

A disappointing signing at left-back, Filipe Luis has been unable to break into Jose Mourinho’s starting lineup on a regular basis this season, with Cesar Azpilicueta remaining the first choice in that position. Despite being a key player in Atletico Madrid’s title win last season, Luis has contributed little to the Blues’ cause this term.

4) Juan Cuadrado

A player who has done little in a Chelsea shirt so far, Juan Cuadrado still looks a signing with great potential after joining from Fiorentina in January. The Colombian needs time to settle and a full pre-season and should prove a good signing next year.

3) Loic Remy

A great impact player off the bench or as a backup, Loic Remy looks a bargain for Chelsea given his contribution and great scoring record in limited appearances, scoring some vital goals to aid the Blues’ challenge in recent weeks.

2) Cesc Fabregas

A brilliant signing from Barcelona, Cesc Fabregas instantly looked a class act when he became a key part of Chelsea’s midfield in the summer, and his assists have added a new dimension to the team’s play, helping turn them into champions.

1) Diego Costa

Surely the most important signing of all, Diego Costa is the world class striker Chelsea have been crying out for for some time. The Spaniard has proven a far bigger success than recent acquisitions like Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, scoring 19 Premier League goals to turn the club from a top three side to first place.
