The Gunners have long been linked with a move for the prolific Argentine international, who shone at Real Madrid before making the move to Italian side Napoli last season.

Higuain’s fine goalscoring form has continued since then, and Arsenal are ready to try their luck with a move for him in the summer transfer window, with Arsene Wenger seemingly still looking for more in the way of quality upfront.

Danny Welbeck has struggled to provide much alternative to Olivier Giroud since joining from Manchester United this season, and there’s no doubt the 27-year-old Serie A man could be a big upgrade in that department.

According to the Metro, Arsenal could seal this exciting £28.9m move, which would be another ambitious deal to follow on from recent big-name signings like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
