6) Carl Jenkinson (Arsenal)

Supposedly a surprise target for Liverpool at right-back, it looks like Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson could be an unwise choice for the Reds to prioritise in the summer transfer market, with the one-time England international not impressing on a consistent enough basis on loan at West Ham United this season, while Lazar Markovic can already do a good job as right wing-back as it is, with Jon Flanagan still to come back from injury.

5) Pedro (Barcelona)

Not a signing the club urgently need, Pedro has been linked with Liverpool as he seems likely to exit Barcelona, but is he really a significant improvement on players like Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho? Plus he perhaps looks past his best after breaking through at Barca from a young age and now falling behind in the pecking order.

4) Memphis Depay (PSV)

A more tempting signing in the attacking midfield department, PSV starlet Memphis Depay is an outstanding young talent who could achieve great things in the game, though it is questionable if he is really the kind of player the Reds need right now unless he could adapt to a role as the team’s main striker, which might not suit him.

3) Petr Cech (Chelsea)

A very useful buy indeed, Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech could be available this summer, maybe on loan, and would be a brilliant piece of business if Liverpool could pull it off, with the Czech Republic star undoubtedly an upgrade on Simon Mignolet between the sticks, even if the Belgian has improved in the second half of the season.

2) Miralem Pjanic (AS Roma)

A £37m midfielder seemingly identified by Brendan Rodgers as the ideal replacement for the departing Steven Gerrard, AS Roma’s Miralem Pjanic has been consistently outstanding in recent years and looks a good fit at Liverpool, though he is perhaps not the ultimate priority due to the emergence of Jordan Henderson, Emre Can and Joe Allen in that area this season.

1) Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)

Since Luis Suarez’s exit and the poor form of summer signings Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert, it’s evident that what this Liverpool team really lacks is a genuine goalscorer upfront, with Daniel Sturridge unable to provide that due to spending so much time out injured. Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette has been linked several times with a move to Anfield and looks the ideal player to spearhead the Reds’ attack next season and for many years to come.
