Mourinho over Wenger, says star who played for both Arsenal & Chelsea

The Gunners have managed a run of eight Premier League victories in a row to go second in the division, but are still ten points behind leaders Chelsea before their encounter on Sunday. Parlour believes that the North London club needs some significant strengthening if they are going to improve on this next season.

While Cech would be a definite improvement on current keepers David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny, the move for Schneiderlin may not be needed. Since Christmas Francis Coquelin has risen to prominence in defensive midfield for the Emirates outfit, and it is doubtful if Wenger will play two defensive minded players in the middle of the park.

Parlour said: “I think Arsenal will look at the goalkeeper situation in the summer. If Chelsea do let Cech go, for me it is a no brainer – you have got to take him. If you sell Wojciech Szczesny, you will get £6-8 million for him – and then if you have got to pay £10m for Cech, then that is a great deal. It would be one of Wenger’s best.”

He added on Schneiderlin: “I love the way he sits there in the midfield, always available. He reminds me of Patrick Vieira. For me Schneiderlin would a great signing.”

However, the need for a leader in the back line has been noted for several seasons. Even though Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny are good players, neither of them are amazing organisers. This has left Arsenal susceptible to conceding from counter attacks and set pieces.

The ex-Gunner said: “If I could put one player from my era back into the team it would not be Dennis Bergkamp or Thierry Henry, as good as they were. It would be Tony Adams. At centre-half, a leader on the pitch who is going to really command and dictate from the back.”
