The Gunners have hit some great form in the latter stages of the season, winning their last nine games on the trot in all competitions. However, they face their toughest test yet against Premier League leaders Chelsea on Sunday. Arsene Wenger hasn’t beaten Blues boss Jose Mourinho in 13 attempts.

Carragher hopes that the Gunners don’t think that this run of victories means they are already capable of a title challenge in the next campaign. The North London club have experienced late surges several times over the last few years, but have failed to build on them on every occasion.

The Anfield hero wrote: “You just hope, however, Wenger and Arsenal’s board don’t get fooled into thinking they have got all the tools they need at their disposal. This is not the time to be complacent. This is the summer when Arsenal must go for it and make the big additions that will stop them being nearly-men.

“That is exactly what Chelsea did 12 months ago. After finishing behind Manchester City and Liverpool, Mourinho didn’t mess around. In came Diego Costa, who had spearheaded Atletico Madrid’s La Liga success, and a World Cup winner in Cesc Fabregas.”

If Arsenal beat Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday it will bring them within seven points of the Stamford Bridge outfit. However, with just five games to follow the encounter, it is surely too late to make a serious attempt of winning the division.
