Man United legend Gary Neville slams ‘boring Chelsea’ jibes: ‘Pathetic’ top four rivals not good enough

Gary Neville has torn into those criticising Chelsea’s football this season as ‘boring’; instead the former Manchester United captain says critics should be slamming Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool for their dismal efforts at trying to keep up with the title leaders.

The Blues have been dominant this season, and after the 3-1 win against Leicester City on Wednesday night, another three points on Sunday versus Crystal Palace would see the Premier League trophy return to Stamford Bridge for the first time in five years.

Nonetheless, despite few being able to question Chelsea’s position at the top of the table, the club haven’t gone the season without a scathing from Premier League supporters for their style of football.

Arsenal supporters, in their goalless draw with Mourinho men’s at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon sang chants of “boring, boring Chelsea”. This came following complaints that this could be the most monotonous campaign in the top flight to date due to Mourinho’s supremacy over his rivals.

However, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville watched on as Chelsea beat Leicester at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday, and believes they have played like champions all term, and deserve recognition for their performance this season.

Instead, the former England international believes that their top four rivals should be blasted over their “pathetic attempt” to chase their formidable lead.

“I don’t get it at all,” the Old Trafford legend told Sky Sports’ Gary Neville Podcast.

“If we’re criticising anybody it should be the pathetic attempt at chasing them this season and putting up a fight,” he continued.

“I have to say Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have got to do so much better next season. The last team that we should be criticising are Chelsea. They are the ones that have gone on and done the job.

“They have extended their lead tonight, they are by far in front and they have been by far the best team this season. They haven’t lost a game since New Year’s Day.

“It’s the other teams that should really be criticised. This Chelsea team have done everything you ask of what will be the champion team.”
