10. Angel Di Maria – 9911m

The Argentine has been heavily criticised for his dip in performances at Old Trafford this season, and has even been linked with  a shock exit in the summer. Nonetheless, the skilful winger certainly isn’t lazy when given his chance on the pitch.

9. Robin van Persie – 9997m

It’s surprising to see the Netherlands international get into the top ten – especially ahead of Antonio Valencia – but his movement off the ball is perhaps overshadowed by his ability on the ball.

8. Ashley Young – 10084m

Since returning from injury, the England international has burst into life, and looks to fit excellently into Louis van Gaal’s system.

7. Radamel Falcao – 10162m

Despite only scoring four Premier League goals this season, the Colombian’s movement is that of a natural striker, and his running off the ball should be admired. A lack of confidence and intense pressure has certainly gotten the better of the forward’s composure in front of goal.

6. Wayne Rooney – 10521m

With the striker content with playing in midfield and dropping deep to collect the ball, it’s no surprise to see the Manchester United skipper boasting one of the best work rate’s in the team. Though there’s no question that his best position remains up front.

5. Daley Blind – 10534m

The versatile midfielder has adapted well to the intensity of the Premier League, but question marks remain over his defensive capabilities.

4. Michael Carrick – 10586m

The England international signed a one-year contract extension with the club in March, as he continues to prove key in the Manchester United midfield. Carrick will be difficult to replace when his time comes to an end at Old Trafford.

3. Marouane Fellaini – 10949m

The former Everton ace suffered in his first season at Old Trafford under David Moyes, but looks to have settled into his rhythm under new boss Louis van Gaal. Goals against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City this season have shown just how important the Belgium is becoming.

2. Ander Herrera – 11084m

The former Atletico Bilbao star is becoming a key player in Louis van Gaal’s side, and after overcoming his early injury problems, his engine in midfield could prove indispensable.

1. Juan Mata – 11345m

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will surely be avoiding looking at the average distance covered by the Spaniard, given the Portuguese’s decision to sell the playmaker last January was largely down to his work-rate. Mata has been the star of Manchester United’s second half of the season.
