Here is how we have rated the performances of Jose Mourinho’s side on a special day for the West London outfit.

GK) Thibaut Courtois – 6

The Belgian stopper was recalled to the starting XI after missing the win against Leicester City in midweek and other than a late block to deny Wilifried Zaha he was largely untested throughout the 90 minutes and will be happy to have kept his third clean sheet in succession.

RB) Branislav Ivanovic – 6

Was given one of his most sternest test this season by Zaha and was booked for a poor challenge on the Palace winger in the first half. The defender proved why he is one of the very best in the league by keeping the winger rather quiet after the break.

CB) Gary Cahill – 7

Another solid game for the England international, as he did very well to nullify the threat of Yannick Bolasie in the first half and then Glen Murray in the second.

CB) John Terry (C) – 6

Made a typical John Terry like block in the first half to deny Jason Puncheon the opener but was fortunate to get away with a handball claim in the same incident and was booked in the first half.

LB) Cesar Azpilicueta – 7

Had a quieter afternoon to that of his team-mate Ivanovic on the opposite side and contained the threat of Puncheon really well and proved why he is such a reliable figure in the Blues back-four.

MC) Cesc Fabregas – 6

The withdrawal of Ramires before kick-off meant a change of roles for the Spaniard as he had to play in his unfavoured deeper role in the first half. Played as the number 10 after the break but couldn’t stamp his authority on the game.

MC) Nemanja Matic – 6

Not at his very best but it was a soilid and effective performance from the Serbian midfielder, although he could have done better with a chance in the first half with the scoreline still goalless.

AMC) Willian – 6

Started the game in the number 10 role behind Didier Drogba and it was evident that he is not suited with the task of being the team’s chief creator. Moved out wide in the second half and improved slightly but missed a chance to make it 2-0 when he got into a mix-up with Drogba.

AMR) Juan Cuadrado – 5

Handed a rare start due to an injury to Ramires before kick-off and was taken off at half-time as he struggled to get to grips with the game.

AML) Eden Hazard – 8 (MOTM)

Won the penalty which led to the opener in the closing stages of the first half, the Belgian will have been very relieved to have converted the rebound after missing his first ever spot-kick in the league.

ST) Didier Drogba – 6

Quiet first-half from the veteran striker as he was well marshaled by the Palace defenders and missed a chance in the second half that would have crowned a special day for the Blues legend.
