Liverpool have been beaten to the signing of PSV Eindhoven star Memphis Depay by Manchester United, meaning that manager Brendan Rodgers will now have to turn his interest elsewhere.

An attacker is surely a priority for the Reds after they failed to properly replace Luis Suarez last summer, and they can’t afford to make the same mistakes again…

Here are five players who the Merseyside club have also been linked with…

5) Theo Walcott, Arsenal

After a season dogged by injuries, the England international looks to be finding it tough to get back into the starting XI at the Emirates. Even so he still has the quality to help a side challenging to get in to the Champions League and the Metro claims that the Reds are interested. The 26-year-old would also add some much needed pace to the side, out on the right or through the middle.

4) Paul Georges Ntep, Rennes

Although not a household name in England, the pacy winger has 14 goals in 35 games for the mid-table Ligue 1 side. According to the Metro the Frenchman has already been on Merseyside twice and could be close to a move. Missing out on Memphis Depay may now push the deal closer to fruition.

3) Ezequiel Lavezzi, PSG

A big name who hasn’t been in the best of form for the Parisian club, Lavezzi needs a move to find his best performances again. The Independent claimed back in February that Rodgers was still keen on a move for the wide man, and he may reignite his interest after the recent disappointment.

4) Pedro, Barcelona

With Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi, and Neymar all at the Nou Camp, the Spain international has been largely limited to substitute appearances this season. According to the Liverpool Echo the forward has refused to rule out a departure as a result, and Anfield could be a good fit. Used to high pressing and a passing game with Barca, he wouldn’t take long to get used to Liverpool’s tactics.

1) Arda Turan, Atletico Madrid

A top class winger for the La Liga champions, and the Daily Express reported back in February that he admitted he would love to play for the Reds. Surely they should try and take advantage of this for a player who has starred in a Champions League final as well as domestically in recent years.
