Preston will be out to put the pain of missing out on automatic promotion behind them when they take on Chesterfield in the first leg of their play-off semi-final at the Proact Stadium.

Simon Grayson’s Lilywhites side headed in to their final game of the season, away to Colchester, second in the table and unbeaten in 19 games.

The club needed a win to secure promotion with the MK Don’s one point behind. In the end, Preston lost 1-0 while the MK Dons beat Yeovil to overtake them in the table.

Morale rather than personnel will be the major issue for Grayson however he is set to be boosted by the inclusion of loan stars Sam Johnstone, Paul Gallagher and Jermaine Beckford available for the play-off with all three set to feature.

Another on-loan star, Aston Villa forward, Callum Robinson could also be involved.

Chesterfield meanwhile could welcome back Drew Talbot following a hamstring injury while back-up keeper Aaron Chapman is set to be on the bench.

Manager Paul Cook is likely to keep faith with the side that drew 1-1 with Sheffield United.

The Blades are also in the semi-finals and will face Swindon at Bramall Lane in their first leg.

Boss Nigel Clough will have Jamie Murphy, Paul Coutts, Ryan Flynn, Steven Davies and Chris Basham all available. Murphy was rested at the weekend while Coutts, Flynn, Davies and Basham have overcome hamstring and knee injuries and will take their place.

However former Rochdale star Matty Done is a doubtful with a groin injury while Louis Reed and Terry Kennedy are both set to miss out with heel and knee problems.

Swindon meanwhile will have Jon Obika, Ben Gladwin, Wes Foderingham, Massimo Luongo and captain Nathan Thompson all fit and available while defender Harry Toffolo will be assessed before the game.
