Liverpool predicted XI against Chelsea: No place for Steven Gerrard in must win game for the Reds

Liverpool are the visitors to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as they look to spoil the party against newly crowned Barclays Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Reds are desperate for a victory as they look to remain in the hunt for a top-four finish and we expect manager Brendan Rodgers to field a very attacking line-up:

GK) Simon Mignolet

The Belgian stopper has improved a great deal since the start of the season and is looking to strengthen his bid to winning the Golden Glove award.

RB) Emre Can

With Rodgers now preferring to play with a four across the back instead of the three it has meant yet another change of position for the young German, who will play on the flank once again and will have a tough task of trying to contain Eden Hazard.

CB) Martin Skrtel

One of Liverpool’s stand-out performers in a difficult season for the Merseyside outfit. The absence of Diego Costa will take some interest away from the fixture but the Slovakian will have his hands full with either Didier Drogba or Loic Remy.

CB) Dejan Lovren

Still has not convinced since his big money move from Southampton last summer and is only in the side because of an injury to Mamadou Sakho, but a good performance against the champions could finally kick-start his career for the Reds.

LB) Alberto Moreno

Fully-fit again after a recent spell of injuries and should replace former Blues defender Glen Johnson at left-back due to the Spaniard being more of a natural down that side than his team-mate.

CM) Joe Allen

One of the most underrated players at the club and possibly in the league, many will point to his lack of goals and assists as reasons for criticism but the Welshman does a lot of the dirty work in midfield and will be needed to do so once again against the champions.

CM) Jordan Henderson

In the absence of club captain Steven Gerrard, Henderson will take the armband once again and will finally need to show that he is capable of filling the Kop legend’s boots by producing a dominant midfield performance at the Bridge.

AMC) Phillipe Coutinho

The Brazilian superstar took his goal tally in all competitions to eight against QPR last week and will be desperate to shine against one of the bigger side’s in the league away from home.

AMR) Raheem Sterling

Has struggled in the last few weeks following news surrounding his contract situation, but Sterling will be eager to impress at the Bridge if reports that Chelsea are interested in his signature at the end of season are true.

AML) Adam Lallana

The former Saints midfielder has struggled with injuries in his first season with the Reds, but now he is fit-again and offers that creativity on the flank that will be needed to unlock a stubborn Blues defence.

ST) Rickie Lambert

Rodgers needs a win at the Bridge, therefore playing a false-nine would be redundant against John Terry and Gary Cahill. Lambert created the first goal for Coutinho last week and should retain his place in the starting XI.
