Manchester United defender Phil Jones wants to end a difficult season in style by securing a top-three finish in the Barclays Premier League, which would ensure automatic qualification for next season’s Champions League.

The Red Devils are currently two points behind third placed Arsenal ahead of their crucial meeting at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, where a win for the home side will see them leapfrog their rivals going into the final week of the campaign.

Jones is aware that his side must beat North London outfit and win their final game of the season against Hull City next weekend to stand any chance of finishing above the Gunners, who will play their game in hand against relegation threatened Sunderland in midweek:

“We need to make sure we beat Arsenal on Sunday.” The England defender told the club’s official website.

“It’s an important game, and we then have to hope that they drop some points in the last games of the season and we beat Hull as well.” he stressed.

United ended a poor run of three straight defeats with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last weekend to move six points clear of Liverpool in the race for fourth and will mathematically confirm a return to the Champions League with a draw against the Gunners.
