Manchester United legend Gary Neville has lifted the lid on speculation surrounding Radamel Falcao’s future at the club after the striker’s apparent wave goodbye at the end of this weekend’s game against Arsenal.

The Colombian international, playing his final home game after joining United on a season-long loan from AS Monaco, looked as though he was bidding farewell as he was substituted in the 1-1 draw with the Gunners at Old Trafford, which would be no surprise given his difficult time in the Premier League.

Although the 29-year-old has previously been regarded as one of the best players in the world, he has really struggled to reach his best form in English football, scoring just four goals all season long.

Falcao’s blank against Arsenal now extends his wait for a goal to 19 games, and Neville thinks the player is surely not going to be making his stay at the club permanent this summer.

“It was a goodbye wave,” Neville told Sky Sports. “Usually you give a salute wave when you are acknowledging the crowd. There was definitely a goodbye to this wave as the hand was moved side to side.

“I don’t think it would be a surprise to anybody to see him leave. It hasn’t quite happened for this season for one reason or another.

“As a striker you rely on confidence. I don’t think he’s ever been full of confidence since he came to Manchester United.”
