The Catalan giants will have some thinking to do about the right-back slot as they ponder losing one of their best players, with the experienced Brazil international reported to have snubbed the offer of a new contract at the Nou Camp.

Bellerin started his career in the Barcelona youth team, but became the latest of many to opt for a switch to Arsenal in the hope of getting more first-team chances.

This has proven a good move by the young Spaniard, who has made himself first choice at right-back for the Gunners this season with some fine displays, though his has now seen Catalan publication Sport suggest him as a transfer target for Barca.

A player who would adapt quickly and who looks ideally suited for Luis Enrique’s side, Sport writer Albert Roge says: “He should never have left.

“20 years old. Spanish. 19 games in the Premier League and four in the Champions League. His contract finishes in June 2017. He knows Barcelona perfectly. He was in the youth teams until 2011, when he went to Arsenal.

“His offensive capacity and speed have allowed him to become the starting right-back for a top Premier League team. Although the recent sales from Arsenal to Barcelona have not gone well, Bellerin is a safe bet.”
