Newcastle United have taken the lead in their crucial game against West Ham United at St James’ Park as influential midfielder Moussa Sissoko has broken the deadlock early in the second half.
The goal means the Magpies will survive in the Premier League as they only need to better Hull City’s result against Manchester United to avoid being relegated into the Championship.
The lead is no more than the home side deserve after making a strong start to the second half and Emmanuel Riviere had a great chance to score in front of the home faithful for the first time this season, but he failed to make contact with a teasing Daryl Janmaat cross.
Sissoko was on hand to head home a Jonas Gutierrez left-wing cross from close range and give the Toon Army something to celebrate.
