The England international is expected to quit Anfield after a row over a new contract, with the youngster seemingly wanting out as he eyes more chance of success elsewhere.

With Liverpool dropping out of the top four this season it is little surprise that Sterling may feel he has more chance of winning silverware at a bigger club, with Arsenal one of many elite sides showing a strong interest in his services this summer.

The Gunners also have a decision to make on one of their own attacking midfielders, with Walcott in and out of the side due to repeated injury problems in the last few years.

According to the Daily Star, a club insider feels replacing Walcott with Sterling would be a good move.

“I think that if Theo is interested in going, then we should make a move,” the source said.

“We’d be getting a better player and our homegrown quota wouldn’t change.

“Sterling is a very hungry player, and I don’t think he wants to leave because he won’t win things.

“I think he’s had a massive falling out with someone over there, and that he’s not being treated right.

“He’s an unreal talent.”
