The 29 year old French international is about to see his Stade Velodrome contract expire and will be available on a free transfer and could represent a cost-effective option to help boost the ailing Liverpool attack.

Gignac is an experienced campaigner who is in the form of his life, his 21 goal Ligue 1 haul this term being the best of his career, and the strong forward may well be an ideal fit for life in the physical confines of the Premier League.

Having netted 102 goals in Premier League action in 2013/14 Liverpool suffered greatly due to the loss of Luis Suarez, who was sold to Barcelona, and things were not improved due to the poor showings of new signings Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert.

Rodgers also lost Daniel Sturridge for much of the season through injury and desperately needs to bring in additional fire-power this summer and Gignac may be the right man for the job though Liverpool’s lack of a Champions League berth may prove a stumbling block.
