According to Futbol Sapieans Rivaldo said the following in a statement: “Sadly, football depends on results. Edinho showed he has qualities, but the team didn’t deliver what was expected and we decided to make a change before it’s too late”

Fans in Brazil are suggesting the whole escapade was a PR stunt.

During his time as a goalkeeper, Edinho played for Santos, Portuguesa Santista, Sao Caetano and Ponte Preta.
