Top Five candidates who could replace Sepp Blatter as FIFA president: Here are the favourites for the job

As the football world was shocked on Tuesday evening with news that Sepp Blatter has quit from his post as FIFA president, we take a look at who Betfair has tipped to replace the Swiss.

Prince Ali Al-Hussein 4/11

Al-Hussein emerged as the only threat to Blatter for Friday’s presidential race where he picked up 73 votes and he is likely to stand again for the position as head of FIFA.

David Gill 6/1

The former Manchester United chief executive threatened to resign from his post as FIFA vice-president after Blatter was re-elected on Friday. But following Tuesday’s news Gill will remain in his position and is a leading contender to takeover.

Luis Figo 6/1

The former Real Madrid and Barcelona star is probably many football supporters choice to be named as new FIFA president.

Figo was a candidate for the recent election but  announced his decision to pull out in protest against the organisaztion and was strongly against Blatter as president (via Sky Sports).

Michel Platini 6/1

The Frenchman led calls for Blatter to resign last week following the corruption scandal (via Mirror Sport) and is in the running to replace the Swiss, however, that task would be difficult as he voted for Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup.

Jerome Champagne 10/1

Champagne is another that was contender to become president but failed to gain the minimum five nominations required in order to pose a threat to Blatter.

However, he has another chance after Tuesday’s turn of events although it would appear unlikely he has much of a chance to succeed Blatter.
