Still, it looks like the Reds still need more strengthening to help replace the departing club legend Steven Gerrard, with other areas of midfield also looking a little weak ahead of next season.

Read on to see four of the club’s rumoured targets that would still be a big help for Liverpool in this summer’s transfer window…

1) Miralem Pjanic (AS Roma)

Linked with a £37m move to Liverpool from Serie A giants AS Roma, Miralem Pjanic has the quality on the ball and range of passing to be a fine replacement for what Gerrard brought to the Liverpool team. A more skillful player than Milner, Pjanic could be the ideal signing to dictate the play for the Reds and giving his team-mates the platform to shine.

2) Nicolas Gaitan (Benfica)

Out wide, Liverpool still look short of quality after up-and-down seasons from players like Lazar Markovic and Alberto Moreno. Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan could definitely be an upgrade in that area and also help the club cope if Raheem Sterling decides to leave.

3) Roberto Firmino (Hoffenheim)

An attacking midfielder who could be an amazing partner for fellow Brazilian Philippe Coutinho, Hoffenheim starlet Roberto Firmino is certainly a signing Liverpool could do with in an attacking midfield role, playing just off the main strikers.

4) Radja Nainggolan (AS Roma)

An out-and-out defensive midfield player, Radja Nainggolan is another Roma player linked with Liverpool in recent times after some fine displays in the middle of the park at the Stadio Olimpico. A powerful player with great work rate, Nainggolan could complement the play of Jordan Henderson, Milner and Pjanic well if he is also brought into the club, offering more protection to the back four.
