David de Gea – Generally regarded as being the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this season, David de Gea was undoubtedly one of United’s best players and kept them in some important games. 9/10.

Rafael da Silva – Barely used by Louis van Gaal for some reason, Brazilian right-back Rafael looked solid enough whenever he did manage to get a game. 6/10.

Luke Shaw – A huge disappointment following his £30m move from Southampton, young left-back Luke Shaw will hope he can make more of an impact next season after looking unfit and unconfident in his time at Old Trafford so far. 5/10.

Phil Jones – Still not quite at the level he perhaps should be, but Phil Jones had some good games for United this year and could improve under the guidance of van Gaal – as long as he’s not on corner duty! 6.5/10.

Chris Smalling – A better season from the England defender, who showed real leadership particularly in the second half of the campaign. 7/10.

Marcos Rojo – A decent signing who should continue to improve, the Argentine defender was in and out of the side this season but still looks a player with plenty of potential. 6.5/10.

Jonny Evans – A player who looks to have gone backwards, Jonny Evans was often a weak point in defence for United this season and shouldn’t be playing as often as he has. 5.5/10.

Daley Blind – A very solid first season from the Dutchman, who showed his class in either a deep-lying midfield role or sometimes at left-back. 7/10.

Ashley Young – One of the stories of the season, Ashley Young went from being a total flop at Old Trafford to one of the team’s star performers after some strong games at left-back and then further forward under van Gaal’s guidance. 8/10.

Antonio Valencia – Often played at right-back, it’s fair to say Antonio Valencia did not quite match Young’s success in switching positions and looks like one who’ll be replaced this summer. 6/10.

Michael Carrick – Reliable as ever, veteran midfielder Michael Carrick did not play a huge amount this season, but instantly looked the experienced head needed in the team when he did feature. 7/10.

Ander Herrera – A terrific signing who settled almost instantly, Ander Herrera really became a hugely important player for United in the latter part of the season, ending with a good contribution of eight goals and four assists. 8/10.

Marouane Fellaini – Another player who drastically improved under van Gaal this season, Marouane Fellaini looks back to his best and put in some great big-game performances this year. 7.5/10.

Juan Mata – After a slow start at United, the former Chelsea man is now the creative hub of the side and put in a majestic display as the Red Devils won 2-1 at Anfield, with the Spaniard’s wondergoal sealing it. 8/10.

Angel Di Maria – Not what was expected, Angel Di Maria started well but faded badly and looked off the pace in the Premier League. Now reportedly unsettled at the club. 6.5/10.

Adnan Januzaj – Despite an amazing breakthrough last year, Adnan Januzaj failed to live up to the hype this time around, falling quickly out of favour with van Gaal and managing no goals or assists all season long. 5/10.

Wayne Rooney – Whether playing up front or behind the main striker, Wayne Rooney looked an improved player this season and seemed to relish being given the captain’s armband at the club. 8/10.

Robin van Persie – In a season disrupted by injuries, Robin van Persie still looked worryingly anonymous in some big games, managing only ten goals. 6/10.

Radamel Falcao – An absolute disaster of a signing, the on-loan Colombian only scored four goals and barely touched the ball in most of his appearances. 4.5/10.

James Wilson – A talented youngster who was rarely used, James Wilson still managed to grab two goals for United and looks a decent prospect. 6/10.

Paddy McNair – Another homegrown talent coming through, Paddy McNair looked good when used by United, but can certainly improve. 6/10.

Tyler Blackett – Similarly to the other youngsters, Tyler Blackett was not a regular but showed some promise and an equal amount of youthful inexperience. 6/10.

Victor Valdes – Despite joining late on and only playing two games, Victor Valdes showed some real quality in the final day draw with Hull City, making a wonder-save to keep his side in it. More to come from the former Barcelona man, for sure. 6.5/10.

Louis van Gaal – Finally, the manager, who spent a lot and perhaps should’ve done better with the squad at his disposal, but who also brought about a new optimism around Old Trafford after David Moyes’ reign. The Dutchman doesn’t look out of place at United and got the team playing some great football at points, even if he needs to show a little more flexibility with his tactics. 7/10.
