Manchester United look to have failed with an initial approach to make a world class signing for their defence this summer with the news that Bayern Munich star Dante has snubbed an offer from Old Trafford.

The Brazilian international has emerged as one of United’s main targets at the back this summer, with big names like Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels also on Louis van Gaal’s radar.

It may be that United will now have to try again for Hummels or some of their other defensive targets, with Dante supposedly not keen to call time on his career at the Allianz Arena just yet, as he hopes to win even more trophies with the Bavarian giants.

According to the Daily Star, the 31-year-old is more confident of enjoying further success with current club Bayern than if he makes the move to United this summer, with the Red Devils still in something of a transitional period after the retirement of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson two years ago.
