Liverpool transfer news

Simon Mignolet – After a poor start, the Belgian goalkeeper actually did alright for the Reds and kept a long run of clean sheets in the early part of 2015, showing he can perform when he’s feeling confident. 6/10.

Brad Jones – An awful backup keeper, Jones did not manage to impress in the rare times he was given a chance to start by manager Brendan Rodgers. 4/10.

Glen Johnson – Harshly criticised at times, Johnson is far from an awful player, but it definitely looks like the right time for him to move on after a less than convincing campaign. 5.5/10.

Javier Manquillo – A strange signing on loan from Atletico Madrid, the Spanish youngster showed some potential but is perhaps just short of being good enough to start regularly at the moment. 6/10.

Emre Can – Despite a slow start, Emre Can settled in brilliantly after finding his best position as part of a three-man defence. Not always on top form, but for one so young this has to go down as a solid first season. 7/10.

Jose Enrique – Not a regular this season and for good reason, Jose Enrique is not good enough for this Liverpool squad and surely won’t command a place next term. 5/10.

Kolo Toure – Another squad player, the former Arsenal and Manchester City man actually had some fairly strong games this season and has earned a one-year extension to his contract. 6/10.

Martin Skrtel – Still an important member of this Liverpool side, Martin Skrtel had another good season, even if the Reds weren’t quite good enough defensively for the most part. 7/10.

Mamadou Sakho – Better than his first season, the French centre-back had some very convincing games, but needs to do it on a more consistent basis. 6.5/10.

Alberto Moreno – A promising youngster who had the expected ups and downs, Alberto Moreno looks a good signing overall and one who could become a real star of this Liverpool team. 6.5/10.

Dejan Lovren – A woeful signing from Southampton, Dejan Lovren had a terrible first season at Anfield after his £20m move. Far worse than could have been expected. 4/10.

Lucas Leiva – Arguably not used enough by Rodgers, Lucas had another good season for Liverpool and did his job whenever called upon. 6.5/10.

Jordan Henderson – An excellent season from the player who should replace Steven Gerrard as captain, Henderson looks like becoming a real leader and top performer in this Liverpool side. 8/10.

Joe Allen – Still not quite at the level one would expect, but Joe Allen does his job well enough for Liverpool and has his place as a backup player. 6/10.

Steven Gerrard – Clearly past his peak and not always in the side, but a decent return of goals from Gerrard in his final season with the club, even if he will probably be haunted forever by that ridiculous red card against Manchester United. 7/10.

Adam Lallana – A player who could be superb for Liverpool if he stays fit, Adam Lallana showed glimpses of real promise since joining from Southampton, but will be hoping to do better next year. 6.5/10.

Lazar Markovic – Used in a variety of roles, it’s hard to know what to make of Serbian starlet Lazar Markovic, who perhaps doesn’t look a £20m player yet, but who has time on his side to develop into a fine winger. 6.5/10.

Raheem Sterling – Despite his contract disputes with the club, there’s no doubt it was another excellent season from the youngster, who contributed eight goals and eight assists playing in a variety of attacking roles. 8/10.

Philippe Coutinho – The gem in this Liverpool side, Philippe Coutinho stole the show this season with some silky displays and memorable goals. What a player. 8.5/10.

Jordan Ibe – A real talent who got some game time to show what he can do, Reds fans will be hoping to see more of Jordan Ibe next season. 6.5/10.

Fabio Borini – Not a player Rodgers really wanted to keep, Fabio Borini did relatively little for Liverpool this season and will surely be off in the summer. 5/10.

Rickie Lambert – With just two goals, Rickie Lambert proved to be the bizarre signing that he initially looked like. Now surely off in the summer, the veteran did not take his big chance after the move of his career. 5/10.

Daniel Sturridge – Despite his injuries, the England striker continues to look a world class threat at his best, though he clearly missed his amazing strike partner of last season, Luis Suarez. 7/10.

Mario Balotelli – One of the worst signings of any club of the whole summer, Mario Balotelli scored just one league goal after his £16m move from AC Milan, proving surprisingly bad even considering his reputation before the move. 4/10.

Brendan Rodgers – Finally, the manager – Rodgers must take the blame for some naive defensive performances and questionable signings, but he deserves an equal amount of credit for turning things around when they’d threatened to get really bad after a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United in December. A top four spot was there for the taking and perhaps should have been achieved against an unconvincing United side, but there was enough there to show the Northern Irishman deserves at least one more season. 6.5/10.
