Manuel Pellegrini is under pressure to spend wisely this summer, with players who trained in England in their youth an absolute must for the club if they are to meet regulations for the Champions League.

Read on to see the four players City will try to bring in to resolve this issue…

1) Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)

Long linked with a move to City, Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling is understandably a high priority for the club this summer due to his contract situation at Anfield. The talented 20-year-old looks more than likely to be quitting the Reds and would make a superb signing for Pellegrini’s side as they look to improve in attack.

2) Ross Barkley (Everton)

Another top young English talent, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley may have had a bit of a dip in 2014/15, but remains one of the best prospects in this country, and one who would fit the homegrown quota as a bonus.

3) Aaron Cresswell (West Ham United)

A left-back who really impressed in his first season in the Premier League, Aaron Cresswell will be knocking on the England door before long and could fit in well at the Etihad Stadium with City arguably in need of improvement on the left-hand side of their defence.

4) Alex Song (Barcelona)

Not English, but Alex Song qualifies as homegrown due to joining Arsenal as a 17-year-old all the way back in 2005. The Cameroon ace is likely to be sold by Barcelona after spending this season on loan at West Ham, and could be a good buy in the middle of the park to improve on players like Fernandinho and Fernando.
