Chelsea transfer rumours
Arsenal fans take to Twitter to react to Abou Diaby finally leaving the Emirates

While some such as Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and Manchester City star Frank Lampard have already agreed moves, it would seem that a solid top-flight side could be created from the cast-offs. This list will surely catch the eye of sides recently promoted to the division.

Here is an XI of the best players who could are available for free transfers…

GK) Brad Jones, Liverpool

A back up keeper for most of his career, the Australian has the benefit of counting as home grown in the eyes of the regulators. This could make him a target for teams with a lack of English players, and who are in need of a goalkeeper.

LB) Maynor Figueroa, Hull City

The scorer of one of the best goals in Premier League history with his strike for Wigan against Stoke City in 2009, Figueroa is on the market for nothing after the Tigers were relegated. Now 32-years-old, he could have some experience to add to a newly-promoted side.

RB) Glen Johnson, Liverpool

Still only 30-years-old, the right-back has been important for the Reds since signing in 2009. However, they are now willing to let him go, and a player who was an England international just last summer is on the market.

CB) Micah Richards, Manchester City

Another former Three Lions star, the 26-year-old had a disappointing loan at Fiorentina last season but is still relatively young. A fresh start could be just what the defender, who can also play at right-back, needs.

CB) Ron Vlaar, Aston Villa

If, according to the Metro, you’re a transfer target for Manchester United then you can’t be doing too badly. The Netherlands international starred under Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal at the last World Cup, and could be set to do the same in the Premier League next season.

CM) Abou Diaby, Arsenal

The Gunners are finally getting rid of the unbelievably injury prone Frenchman, but he is still a very talented player. However, any club who signs him now is being very brave after watching Arsene Wenger fail to get him fit for a full season in the last ten.

CM) Joey Barton, QPR

He may be controversial, but the one-time England star has grown up a bit in recent years. There are less of the infamous stories, and he even seemed to be genuinely trying for the Rs towards the end of the season. Maybe this has all come too late at 32-years-old though!

RM) Shaun Wright-Phillips, QPR

Remember when the nifty winger was the ‘next big thing’ in the Premier League? Well some do, and maybe one of them could be tricked in to signing the midfielder on the back of past exploits.

LM) Jonas Gutierrez, Newcastle United

Amazingly the Argentine managed to battle back from testicular cancer to help the Magpies stay up last season, and any club who signs the 31-year-old will be getting a player Premier League quality player with an inspiring story.

ST) Didier Drogba, Chelsea

After calling time on his second spell at Stamford Bridge the Ivorian announced that he was seeking another club to play for. Could he have one last hurrah left in him?

ST) John Guidetti, Manchester City

Impressed with Feyenoord back in 2011/12 by scoring a brilliant 20 goals in 23 appearances, but has failed to live up to those standards since. The 23-year-old still has a lot of time ahead of himself to get back to that standard.
