Metro Sport claim Liverpool are preparing a £20million bid for the Shakhtar Donetsk star after Rodgers has been impressed with the 24-year-old’s form with this season’s Ukrainian Premier League runners-up.

Costa, who bagged four goals in 20 league appearances this year, has long been linked with a move to Chelsea and earlier this week Telegraph Sport reported that a deal was close.

However, it would appear the Blues will face a fight from their Barclays Premier League rivals to land the midfielder.

Costa is currently on international duty with Brazil and he looks to guide the side to Copa America glory and will be hoping to be apart of the starting XI for their opening group game against Peru on Sunday night.

Should he snub a move to Stamford Bridge in favour of the Reds then he will link-up with international team-mate Philippe Coutinho on Merseyside next season and further bolster the squad at Anfield.
