Chelsea rumours: Blues to splash out £61.5m to sign Premier League trio, including Liverpool target

Los Blancos are apparently keen on signing the 26-year-old, but the Blues and their manager aren’t even entertaining the possibility of it happening. The Spain international scored 20 goals in 26 Premier League appearances last season despite suffering numerous hamstring problems.

The whole story has come from Spanish journalist Francois Gallardo, who said: “They [his representatives] have offered Diego Costa to Real Madrid. He is a top player and perhaps one of the three best players in the world in his position. An offer arrived on Tuesday and the club like it.

“But there is a problem with his current club. Although Real Madrid accepts the offer, the coach [Mourinho] and club [club] will put many obstacles in the way.”

It would be very surprising if Mourinho allowed the forward to leave Stamford Bridge, especially having already lost club legend Didier Drogba this summer. The Daily Mirror has also linked fellow striker Loic Remy to a transfer away, which, despite the undoubted talent of 17-year-old Dominic Solanke, will surely leave the London team aiming to buy and not sell players for the position.

The Galacticos are usually able to sign whoever they want, landing some of the world’s biggest names in recent years, but this might be one player they won’t have a chance with; since the arrival of Roman Abramovich at Chelsea they have been able to hold on to their players whatever the interest in them thanks to his financial power and ambition to keep the team moving forward.

Still, the Daily Express reports that Real’s new manager Rafael Benitez may not have a place for Karim Benzema in his side next season, which could explain the interest in Costa and the possibility of the former Atletico Madrid man returning to the Spanish capital.
