News that Carlos Tevez is closing in on a move back to Boca Juniors means that Arsenal’s chances of securing the ex-Manchester United striker are slim, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports reported that the Gunners were considering a move for the Juventus frontman as they sought to bolster their striking options ahead of a potential title challenge next season.

However, with Tevez almost-inevitably moving elsewhere, Arsene Wenger looks likely to have to turn to other potential transfer targets in order to improve his forward line.

Here are five players who could enforce the Gunners’ attack and help the club challenge for the Premier League crown next year.

Karim Benzema
With Rafael Benitez apparently keen on using Cristiano Ronaldo as his No. 9 at the Bernabeu, and considering the possibility of bringing Mauro Icardi and Sergio Aguero to the Bernabeu, Karim Benzema may find himself as the odd man out in Madrid.

Should he opt to move, he will have no shortage of suitors, with Manchester United heavily linked to his signature.

However, the world-class poacher will also pique the interest of Arsene Wenger, who may see his compatriot as the kind of talent who could fire the Gunners to the title.

Gonzalo Higuain
Another elite forward who may be available this summer is Tevez’s compatriot Gonzalo Higuain.

The striker may be discouraged by Napoli’s inability to secure a return to the Champions League and may look to follow Benitez out of the club.

Should he look to move, there will likely be some considerable interest in his services and the Express understand that Arsenal have expressed interest in signing the frontman.

Stevan Jovetic
The sinuous Stevan Jovetic just hasn’t found his place in the Premier League and looks set to leave Manchester City this summer.

Since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Fiorentina in 2013, the forward has managed only 30 league appearances, scoring eight goals.

Inter Milan are believed to be keen on the forward [TalkSPORT], while Jovetic has also been offered to Liverpool as part of a deal to bring Raheem Sterling to Manchester.

Might Arsene Wenger see something in the talented 25-year-old that could tempt him to acquire the forward for the Gunners?

The Metro certainly believe so, and linked the North-London outfit with a move back in April.

Mohamed Salah
Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has yet to truly demonstrate his class before an English public.

He moved to Chelsea amid much fanfare in January 2014, but has been given precious little opportunity to shine over the subsequent months.

Salah did, however, show his capabilities on loan at Fiorentina over the last six months, and may be motivated by the prospect of a move to one of Chelsea’s rivals.

However, the jury’s out on whether the player is made for the EPL, or whether he would be better suited seeking his fortunes in Italy or Spain.

Christian Benteke
The Aston Villa hitman has demonstrated his capacity to be an absolutely lethal presence in the top flight, although doubts do remain about both his consistency and his fitness record.

The Belgian’s physique and ability to lead the line on his own may appeal to Wenger, and he is a younger option than Olivier Giroud.

However, would the French coach meet Benteke’s considerable asking price?
