The England Under-21 set-up is often criticised as an unnecessary burden on the Premier League’s best clubs, but this excellent infographic from Football super Tips proves that a large proportion of the youth internationals go on to bigger and better things.
Of the 112 players who’ve turned out for the England Under-21s since 2001, almost half have gone on to win a senior cap – 49 in total.
Only 14 have never gone on play Premier League football, which is not terrible considering many original call-ups come from the lower leagues.
The England Under-21 side is currently competing in the European championships of course, but will do well to qualify from their group after losing their opening fixture to the talented Portuguese.
What we can almost guarantee though is that none of the current batch will end up as a car salesman, a restaurateur or completely unemployed – as the graph claims has happened with some over the past decade!
