A look at the best teenage prospects in England at the moment after Liverpool completed the signing of Joe Gomez from Charlton Athletic, as announced today on their official club website.

1) Jordan Ibe (Liverpool)

Brought into the Liverpool first-team at times this season, 19-year-old winger Jordan Ibe looks an outstanding prospect at Anfield, and one Gomez could play alongside in a Reds and England team of the future. With 14 senior appearances under his belt already, this tricky and pacey attacker has featured regularly for England at Under-18, Under-19, and Under-20 level.

2) James Wilson (Manchester United)

A pacey young striker with great instincts in front of goal, James Wilson has always impressed whenever given the chance to feature for Manchester United’s senior side, scoring four goals in 18 appearances for the club so far and becoming a regular for the England Under-20s.

3) Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea)

A powerful midfielder who is very highly thought of at Chelsea, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is undoubtedly one of the best youngsters in English football at the moment, and the 19-year-old could be close to a first-team breakthrough at Stamford Bridge, though of course there is plenty of competition in his way. Still, the Daily Express reported back in March that Jose Mourinho sees him as a reason for not entering the market to sign Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

4) Chuba Akpom (Arsenal)

One of many promising young players coming through at Arsenal, Chuba Akpom is a terrific striker who is knocking on the door of the first-team at the Emirates Stadium, having made nine appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side so far, though with no goals to show for it as of yet. Akpom does, however, have six goals in just ten games for the England Under-20s.

5) Luke Shaw (Manchester United)

Despite a low-key first season at Manchester United, 19-year-old left-back Luke Shaw is a very bright prospect for the Red Devils and for England after first coming through at Southampton, becoming a regular when he was still only 17, and already playing for the Three Lions at a World Cup.

6) Jordan Rossiter (Liverpool)

A player Liverpool will be hoping is the next Steven Gerrard, Jordan Rossiter looks an exciting midfielder who could be close to a first-team call in Brendan Rodgers’ side.

7) Matt Targett (Southampton)

Another top prospect coming through at Southampton, Matt Targett, 19, is already a key player for the England Under-21s.

8) Rolando Aarons (Newcastle United)

A skillful winger who has drawn comparisons with Raheem Sterling, Rolando Aarons looks like having a very bright future at Newcastle United.
