Liverpool transfer news

With some of the Premier League’s finest players in recent years being Spanish, here’s our pick of the best that have starred for the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United all in one combined XI, with a slightly unorthodox 3-5-2 formation…

GK: David de Gea

An absolutely world class goalkeeper for Manchester United, David de Gea has been excellent since joining from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.

DC: Alvaro Arbeloa

Not the best player in the world by any means, but a solid and versatile performer for Liverpool before joining Real Madrid.

DC: Ivan Campo

The Premier League has not been blessed with the very best Spanish centre-backs, but Ivan Campo was a solid enough performer for Bolton Wanderers back in the day.

DC: Cesar Azpilicueta

A superbly solid left-back for Chelsea, Cesar Azpilicueta has been a key performer for the Blues in the last couple of seasons and is unlucky not to play more for Spain.

Manchester United transfer news

MC: Xabi Alonso

A brilliant midfielder with an awesome range of passing, Xabi Alonso arguably outshone Steven Gerrard when he was at Liverpool, and went on to star for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

MC: Cesc Fabregas

First a promising youngster for Arsenal, then club captain, Cesc Fabregas is now a title winner with Chelsea after a spell at Barcelona, and is undoubtedly one of the best midfielders in the world.

AMR: Juan Mata

A superb playmaker first at Chelsea and then at Manchester United, Juan Mata is part of a recent Spanish influx to England and has really looked the part.

AML: David Silva

A hugely influential performer for Manchester City since he joined, David Silva has looked a class act in the Premier League, winning two titles for his club with some silky midfield displays.

AMC: Santi Cazorla

One of the best players in the Premier League this season, Santi Cazorla really stepped it up a gear for Arsenal and is another immensely gifted Spanish creative midfielder.

FC: Diego Costa

Brazilian-born, but now a Spanish international, Diego Costa certainly looks like becoming one of the best strikers in the league after a superb first season for champions Chelsea.

FC: Fernando Torres

Not so great at Chelsea, but Fernando Torres was unstoppable during his time with Liverpool, also firing Spain to glory in Euro 2008 during his time at Anfield.
