The 27 year old had a solid season out on loan at West Ham last term and this has clearly acted as an effective shop-window for the Cameroon international.

The Daily Telegraph claim Man City are also interested in Song, who qualifies as a ‘homegrown’ talent due to his time at Arsenal and Barcelona are ready to accept as little as £5m for the battler.

The Nou Camp side are keen to offload Song, according to the Telegraph, and his £70k a week wage demands, and are therefore willing to consider fairly nominal offers for the player.

Song spent seven years at the Emirates Stadium and would offer Mourinho a strong alternative to defensively minded midfielder Nemanja Matic.

Mourinho has previously stated his intention to sign a midfielder (Via Sky Sports) and Song could prove to be a very sensible addition to help add further strength in depth to a Chelsea squad that romped to the Premier League title last season.

Song struggled to make an impact at Barcelona but has more than proven himself a very capable Premier League performer and in today’s transfer market a £5m fee for a player of his calibre could only be considered a bargain.
