The highly rated Swiss international joined Inter Milan in January, initially on a short-term deal, but is now a player Roberto Mancini is keen to offload.

Brendan Rodgers is one of a host of managers interested in the former Bayern Munich man and a fee of £10.5m would be enough to make the speedy wide-man Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer.

The 23 year old only played a bit-part role at the Allianz Arena under Pep Guardiola and his move to Inter Milan hasn’t gone quite as the pint-sized attacker would have hoped.

Shaqiri managed to net just once in 15 Serie A appearances but has the potential to re-ignite his career and at the price quoted by this source such a move could be a cost-effective one worth making.

Liverpool have already secured the signings of free agents James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogan as well as £3.5m Charlton Athletic defender Joe Gomez and Brazilian Roberto Firmino, who moved to Merseyside in a £29m deal from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.
