Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United are well-placed to challenge for the Barclays Premier League title next season, provided the right players are added to the squad this summer.

The Red Devils finished fourth last year after a poor start to the campaign and still have to negotiate the play-off round in order to secure a return to the Champions League next season.
Many expect manager Louis van Gaal to spend big this summer in order to turn the club into genuine title contenders and he has been linked with a number of new recruits.
Recent rumours suggest Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos could be making a surprise move to Old Trafford in the near future after reports in Guardian Sport suggested that a swap deal involving United number one David De Gea could be on the cards.
Meanwhile Southampton and French star Morgan Schneiderlin is reportedly closing in on a switch to Manchester according to Star Sport, which would significantly strengthen the midfield department at Old Trafford.
This has led United club captain Rooney to feel positive about his team’s chances of winning the league next season:
“With a couple of signings in the summer we will have a good chance of doing that. It would be good to win as many cups as possible,” he said on his official website.
“A club like Manchester United should be winning trophies and hopefully next season we can put that right,” Rooney added.
The 29-year-old scored 12 goals in 33 appearances for United last year and finished the campaign by moving second in the all-time scoring record list for England after netting the winner against Slovenia earlier in the month.
