The midfielder appeared certain to be leaving the Bundesliga outfit this summer after Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke claimed that the player had no future with the club, saying, “He will leave in the summer of Borussia Dortmund, which is no doubt,” as quoted by Sportnachrichten.

However, Bild’s sister paper Bild am Sonntag are reporting that 24-year-old has now opted to reject a move away from the Westfalenstadion and is close to committing his future to BVB until at least the end of the 2015-16 season.

If reports prove correct, this would be one of the shock transfer u-turns of the summer so far following months of speculation that the Germany international could have been heading to the Premier League.

Manchester United were recently said to have been closing in on a deal for his signature, with the Daily Star claiming that the Red Devils could announce his arrival at Old Trafford next week.

The Gunners have also been credited with interest, as reports earlier in the month suggested that the player was considering a move to the Emirates [Mirror].
